Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Saturday said the government’s decision to increase the remuneration of Anganwadi and Asha workers by almost 50 per cent will go a long way in addressing the grievances of these 25 lakh workers.

Cabinet clears proposal to hike honorarium for Anganwadi workers

The pay hike will cost the exchequer around Rs.106.5 billion. It will be applicable from 1 October 2018 to 31 March 2020. The honorarium for Anganwadi workers has been increased from Rs.3,000 per month to Rs.4,500 per month. For Anganwadi workers at mini-centres and Anganwadi helpers, it has been hiked from Rs.2,250 to Rs.3,500 and Rs.1,500 to Rs.2,250, respectively.

1. The pay hike will cost the exchequer ₹10,649.41 crore. It will be applicable from 1 October, 2018, to 31 March, 2020.

The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal to increase the honorary salaries of the Asha entrepreneurs. Those who now get Rs.3000 per month are now available for Rs. 4500 and Rs. 2200 for mini Anganwadis Rs. 3500. The amount given to Anganwadi assistants from Rs 1500 to Rs 2250 and Rs. A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held on Wednesday was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.


They have to pay Rs.550 to Rs 250 from performance-oriented promotions. The changes will come into effect from this month. It is known that the Prime Minister has announced a week earlier that the Anganwadi workers' salaries will be increased. There are 12.83 lakh Anganwadi activists, 10.50 lakh deputies and 10.23 lakh Asha activists nationwide.
